Six minutes before the client call, the founder opened the company website on his phone. The headline was cut off, the menu had turned into a wall of small text, and the phone number was hidden below the fold. The client, who had already opened the same link on his own phone, saw something worse. Nobody said anything about the website. The call went fine. The order did not.

Quick answer (updated 02-11-2026): most small business websites are built on a laptop and checked on a laptop, which is why many of the people who open them are reading a broken version. The rule that works: design the mobile version first, because that is where most visits happen. In Personnn Startup, the site opens on your own domain or on a .personnn.site address, you upload your catalog, the agent answers your customers, and you ask for changes to the AI you already use (ChatGPT, Claude or Grok), choosing whether it can read, leave drafts or publish (personnn.com/startup, read on 02-11-2026). It costs US$30 per month, or US$25 per month paying for the year, and includes PersonnnOS and your Personnn on the site. There are 44 businesses and 4 AIs connected today.

Six minutes before the call

Nobody decides to have a bad website. It happens the ordinary way: the site is built on a big screen, checked on that same big screen, and approved by the person who paid for it. Then real traffic arrives, and real traffic arrives on a phone, in a lift, on a train, between two meetings.

What the owner sees on a desktop is a page. What the customer sees on a phone is a document that has to be zoomed in four times. And the things that matter most are exactly the ones that get pushed down: the phone number, the address, the price, the "call us" button.

The strange part is that this almost never generates a complaint. The customer does not write to say "your website is unreadable on my phone". They simply assume the business is not serious, they close the tab, and they find the next result. The website does its damage quietly.

And there is a second cost, on top of the lost order: the site also teaches people what to expect from the business. If the first contact is a broken page, every later contact starts from a lower number.

Why the site breaks on the phone

  • It was designed on a wide screen. The navigation, the columns and the spacing all assume a desktop width.
  • The text was never shrunk on purpose. It was shrunk by the browser, which is not the same thing.
  • The calls to action sit at the bottom. On a phone, the bottom is a long scroll away.
  • Nobody tested it with a real customer. The team tested it with a colleague on a big screen.
  • The content was added over years. Each new page brought its own layout, and nobody unified them.

And there is a sixth reason that is not technical at all: there is no one whose job it is to keep the site working. The site was a project, and the project ended. Every later change is somebody's favor, done on a Friday afternoon, and nobody owns the result.

What a business site actually needs

  1. One layout that works everywhere. The same page, readable on a phone, a tablet and a desktop, without a separate mobile version to maintain.
  2. The essentials above the fold. What you sell, where you are, how to reach you, and the next step.
  3. A blog that gets updated. A site with a blog can answer the questions people ask before they buy. A site without one can only wait for them to arrive.
  4. Real pages, not a document. Terms, privacy, returns, contact, about. Buyers in the US and Europe check them before they buy, and a missing page reads as a missing company.
  5. Search basics done once. Titles, descriptions, a sitemap, structured data and a media library, so the site can be found and can be edited by anyone without touching code.
  6. A place to sell, if the business sells. The catalog, prices, availability and the cart, on the same site, not on a different tool that the customer has to trust.

That last point is the one that decides whether a site works in 2026: a website that only describes the business is a brochure. One that sells is the business.

What we can automate

  • The site and the content. Customizable sites, 44 demo designs across trades, mobile designs, a content editor, extra pages, a blog, legal pages, SEO information and a media library.
  • The changes. You ask for them to the AI you already use, and you decide whether it can read, leave drafts or publish.
  • The catalog. Physical and digital products, prices, stock and availability, in one place.
  • The customer questions. The agent answers them on the site, in the language the customer wrote in.

And what we do not promise:

  • We do not promise a full ERP, nor an all-in-one system for accounting firms or administrators.
  • We do not promise that installing plugins is unlimited. What the platform includes, it includes.
  • We do not promise complete automation of orders or bookings. Those need a person on the confirmation step.
  • This article quotes no industry figures. We did not find an open primary source we could cite, and we prefer not to invent the number. The only figure here, the price of Personnn Startup, comes from its own landing page, read on 02-11-2026.
